Protected
Tell the story of your hidden self through watercolor and journaling…
I think there is a part of each of us we keep hidden from others. I think it’s because of our past experiences we feel this need to keep this side of ourselves protected. I want you to think about this part of yourself and what are your reasons for keeping this part protected from others. This portrait represents that side of you, and the landscape is our safe and peaceful environment where we can express our feelings through journaling. You can tell the story of that hidden you. I encourage you to write about things in your past that you feel have created this need to protect a part of yourself. It’s important to praise and lift this hidden you up.
This is the quote I wrote on my painting:
I am a quiet rebel, I am not loud or in your face, but I have my own mind, I won’t be told what to do, I will be polite and go my own way.
I have learned by using watercolor that some things just can’t be controlled but that’s part of what makes watercolor so special. It almost has a mind of its own and you are along for the ride. We can help coax it in the direction we want but there is always this element of surprise with watercolor. One part of my painting may not be beautiful on its own but when its put with the whole picture it can create something more meaningful. This is the same as our lives, certain things that we have experienced may not be beautiful, they might be heartbreaking or even scary. It is these past experiences that have helped mold us into the adults that we are. We all have a unique beauty inside us and can offer so much to each other. And just like in watercolor it all comes together to create a meaningful and beautiful life.
