Creative Threads
Welcome to Creative Threads. I am so happy you are here with me and I am so excited to share with you this wonderful artform.
When I was in 7th grade I had a Home Education class where we did a small cross stitch project. Since then I have been hooked on needlework. While cross stitch was fun and I enjoyed doing it I eventually discovered hand embroidery. With hand embroidery I felt I had more freedom and I could make my own designs.
My grandmother was so excited that I had become interested in this artform she bought me pillowcases that had patterns printed on them. She happily displayed anything I made. I am lucky enough to have been handed down some beautiful pieces from both my grandmothers.
I have found needlework to be a relaxing and healing artform. It is something I can do with my hands while my mind is free to wander. It’s something I can do sitting on the couch with my kids while they watch a movie. A couple years ago I discovered a way to have my watercolor illustrations printed onto fabric. This really opened a whole new door for my embroidery. Instead of creating a scene completely out of thread I now had the materials needed to embellish a scene already on the fabric.

I am really excited to finally share this lesson with you. I was wanting to create a painting that showed the true meaning of Christmas.
